We built the portal on a remote island as a precaution. It was better to do our work away from the prying eyes of the world, certainly, but also if, on the chance we summoned something that was beyond our control, it would be contained.
                          
We found a rock in the North Sea well suited to our purposes and began our work. Our order prospered, unconcerned by the affairs of the physical world.

                          
We did not expect Earth's ice caps to melt and the sea to rise.
                          
When the spirit realms flooded, our order had to answer some serious questions.
