Something happened

Why hello.

Thought this book was finished? Well you were right.

Until now.

This is the final chapter everyone. And something happened to me recently which I think ties in quite nicely with the ending of this book. Also unless any more life-changing musical-related occurrences happen, this book is officially finished.

I am now a v-

sorry I'm just a bit nervous. I am now a vi-

A viola player.

*GASP* *CHAMPAGNE GLASS IS DROPPED* WOMAN SCREAMS*

Yes. After all the jokes I've made about viola players, I have been converted.

Here's why.

So some of you may know (depending on how long you've been reading this book) that I auditioned for an orchestra around this time last year actually and got in successfully.

I am now surrounded by child prodigies every Saturday for 2 hours so I try to keep my mind off my lack of talent in comparison to literally the best musicians in my city who are younger than me.

Yeah.

So that has been going really well for me actually (apart from the crippling self doubt I occasionally experience at 11:40 pm in bed). I've played in my city's best venues, I've met the youth orchestra from Germany that came to play with us, and I'm currently preparing for our final concert of the year. By the time I post this chapter it will probably be over.

So within my orchestra it's highly encouraged that all the violinists learn to play viola and eventually it got around to my turn for 'Corelli's Christmas Concerto'. And I picked it up relatively quickly, which surprised me to no end! Like within the first week I'd taught myself almost the whole piece and within about a month I could read alto clef pretty well.

Now at this stage in the story I'm doing quite well. But I don't know this because it's usually very hard to get good feedback so one day I actually gain the courage to ask and I get "You're doing really well you should think about doing more viola definitely yes yes."

And I'm like WHAT

'Cause, you know, I've just spent the last ten years of my life playing the violin so to suddenly hear that I am actually apparently better at viola than the violin was a bit of a shock so I went home and kind of went by the day in a bit of a huddle of confusion because WHAT THE HECK.

WHY HAVEN'T I BEEN PLAYING VIOLA ALL THIS TIME INSTEAD OF WRITING VIOLA JOKES IN AN ONLINE BLOG.

IS THIS EVEN CONSIDERED A BLOG

PROBABLY NOT ANYWAY

So after about three months of shoving down the decision making as far down as it could go it finally came time to make the fateful decision.

Do I upgrade my current violin as originally planned, or do I take the advice of a very very talented musician that I trust and instead make an investment in a viola?

Am I a violin player, or am I a viola player?

Who am I?

GUESS WHAT THE OUTCOME OF THAT WAS.

I NOW HAVE A BEAUTIFUL VIOLA IN THE MUSIC ROOM IN MY HOUSE AND I LOVE IT. Also I need name suggestions so please suggest away.

Please.

So YEP. I'm now playing viola. And I have no idea where this will take me. I only hope that my past ten years as a violin player making viola jokes prepares me for such a challenge.

Because I'm now that cocky overconfident viola player who you can definitely tell was a violin player in a former life.
