K A Y E
I woke up extra early this morning and went straight to the kitchen to make breakfast. I was a working progress in culinary but I was managing. I decided to make cheesy eggs, bacon, and some pancakes with real fruit.
I was doing very well if I must say, that was until the stupid smoke detector kept going off from the bacon. Every now and then I had to stop, pull out a chair and stand on it, then fan over the alarm with a towel.
"Guh, what'cha doing?" I heard behind me. I briefly looked back at a sleepy looking Vajunyus.
"What it look like?"
"It look like you about to fall off that chair and break yo ankles trying to burn down my house." He said just as I lost my balance but caught it quickly.
I started to fan the alarm again and get it to shut up but it wasn't working. Vajunyus walked over and reached up unplugging the alarm and it immediately stopped.
I wiped the invisible sweat off of my forehead and jumped down from the chair shouting "Happy Birthday!"
Vajunyus looked back at me while walking over to the stove. "Thanks" He cracked a small smile.
"Ughh." I made a face. "I'm only going to be nice to you today since its your birthday."
He nodded with his back facing me. "I feel ya'."
I walked over towards him and noticed he was trying to finish cooking up the bacon I had.
"Awee- It's your birthday. I'm supposed to be cooking for you."
He shook his head while flipping over the bacon. "Nahh lil one. Do that for ya man when you get in a relationship. Ion need nobody to do shit fah' me."
I eyed him for a while before he caught on to my gaze. "What? I offended you or something?"
I shook my head. "Not one bit."
"Thought so." He answered while turning the stove off and switching the skillet onto another burner.
"Besides, yo cooking skills not all'at."
"Well duh. Tell me something I don't know." I put my hand on my hip. "But you know I'm getting better."
He nodded while grabbing two glass plates out of the cabinet. "You getting there."
"Can I at least fix your food for you?" I smiled small while he turned and faced me.
He looked me up and down slowly before nodding his head. I smiled in satisfaction while he went and took a seat at the island. After fixing my plate and his plate, we sat and ate.
"So, what do you want to do today?"
"Nun." He continued eating.
"It's your day, you need to do something."
He shook his head. "It's just like any other ordinary day."
I squinted my eyes at him just as he looked up. "You're so lame."
He chuckled. "That's aight. I think you like my lame ass though."
I slightly choked on my eggs. "Me?" I pointed to myself.
"-Nope." I shook my head before he could answer me. He slouched back and raised one of his eyebrows in a challenging way.
"What?"
He shook his head and looked away. I mean, if I liked him... nope, never mind. I'm not even going to think about liking Vajunyus.
After finishing up with my food; I stood up, and took my plate and his to the sink to be washed.
"How about we go to the zoo?" I suggested while beginning to clean the little amount of dishes.
He smacked before speaking. "I don't fuck wit' zoo's like 'dat."
"Boy bye. Everybody likes the zoo."
"No everybody don't." He mocked my high pitched voice. "-I don't know wassup with you and going to the zoo."
After washing the dishes, I decided to just chill and watch a movie. I didn't have anything better to do at the moment. I was hoping to go to the zoo but looks like I'm not going.
I continued to watch The Lorax... Don't judge me. But I watched the movie until the doorbell sounded throughout the fairly large home.I hopped up quick.
"I got it!" I ran down the hall into the living room until I reached the foyer. I looked through one of the glass doors to make sure it was who I thought it was. I unlocked the door and opened it to welcome in Stone and Leric.
"Wait-Where's the cake?"
"Chill, it's in the car." Stone assured me while he and Leric walked further into the house.
"You could'a at least tell us hey first girl, damn. All the running around town we been doing." Leric crossed her arms.
I smiled. "My bad. I'm just... I don't know, I-"
"Why y'all tah my house?" I heard Vajunyus' voice making me turn around.
Stone started to chuckle. "Damn, we was just around the way and decided to come swing by and wish you a happy birthday nigga."
Vajunyus side eyed Stone before they both laughed and embraced each other into a hug followed by a thank you from Vajunyus.
"So, wassup with tonight?" Stone questioned.
"You know that's not for me." Vajunyus waved him off while hugging Leric.
I looked around innocently. "Well...."
"Well what?" Vajunyus questioned like he knew I was going to say some crazy stuff.
"Maybe we all should go out and celebrate."
Vajunyus shook his head. "Nah, not gone happen."
"Come on Junebug. Just for tonight. Go out and have fun for once... This year." Leric said.
He smacked. "Y'all know I don't do all'at going out shit."
Stone shook his head. "Come see. Lemee have a minute with'cha." He pulled Vajunyus to follow him. I was guessing they were going to the den, where I was watching my movie.
But, it didn't matter as long as we had enough time to get the cake in the house. Just as they disappeared down the hall, me and Leric ran out the house to retrieve the cake.
After getting the cake inside we tried to get it to the basement as soon as possible. I didn't want Vajunyus to find the cake so I was hoping he wouldn't go in the basement today. Leric and I made it back to the front just as Stone and Vajunyus was coming back.
"Finally got his ass to cooperate and go out for the night." Stone said while Vajunyus held a slight mug making me laugh.
"Well." Leric sighed. "We should leave now. You know how my lil sister is whenever we're late to get the kids."
After they said their goodbyes, I went right back to watching my movie. After the movie I decided to make a few calls with the phone that Vajunyus let me have a hold too. I wanted to double check that the party planning for the night was getting done.
After that, I made my way upstairs and went straight to Vajunyus' room. His door was already open so I just welcomed myself in.
When I walked near, I noticed he was sitting on the edge of his bed messing with his guns. One sat in the middle of the bed while he held the other. I watched as he pulled back on it and a bullet fell out of it. I stood against the door frame watching him silently. He was so focused.
